VM Creation Failure due to SkuNotAvailable in Specified Region

Describe the bug

Exercise: Create an Azure virtual machine ( Describe Azure compute and networking services )

Description of Issue:

The az vm create command provided in the lab fails because the specified VM size, Standard_D2s_v5, is currently not available in the region used for the Resource Group, eastus.

This prevents users from completing the lab step. The error message explicitly states: (SkuNotAvailable) The requested VM size for resource... is currently not available in location 'eastus'.

Steps to Reproduce:

Follow the lab instructions to create the resource group:

az group create --name IntroAzureRG --location eastus
(This step succeeds, showing the location is eastus.)

Run the VM creation command as specified in the course:

az vm create --resource-group "IntroAzureRG" --name my-vm --size Standard_D2s_v

Possible solution (Extracted from existing issue, might be incorrect; please verify carefully)

Solution 1:

Change the VM size to 'Standard_D2as_v6' and keep the region as 'eastus'. This worked for me.

az vm create --resource-group "IntroAzureRG" --name my-vm --size Standard_D2as_v6 --public-ip-sku Standard --image Ubuntu2204 --admin-username azureuser --generate-ssh-keys

Solution 2:

Change the location to 'eastus2' and the VM size to 'Standard_D2as_v6'. This worked afterwards.

az vm create --resource-group "IntroAzureRG" --name my-vm --size Standard_D2as_v6 --location eastus2 --public-ip-sku Standard --image Ubuntu2204 --admin-username azureuser --generate-ssh-keys

Solution 3:

Retain all the parameters except the 'size'. Use 'Standard_DC1ds_v3' instead of the original size. Remember to delete the resources after your exercise.

Here is the exact script that works seamlessly:

az vm create --resource-group "IntroAzureRG" --name my-vm --size Standard_DC1ds_v3 --public-ip-sku Standard --image Ubuntu2204 --admin-username azureuser --generate-ssh-keys
