Transition to community maintenance

This library is heavily used but not very actively maintained. Have ya'll considered transitioning this over to the community for better ongoing support and maintenance?

In particular, #637 will soon become a dealbreaker as React 19 usage increases.

The developers should release this project to the community. Maybe someone could fork it and start maintaining it from there?
