OOM not permitting conversion of point symbols to another type

I have imported a bunch of map data from OpenStreetMap, most of which has been converted to appropriate orienteering symbols, but some objects, like picnic tables have not been converted and are simply purple points. I would like to convert these to man-made objects, but OOM is not allowing me to do so. When I select the object and then right-click on the prominent man-made object symbol the option to Switch symbol of selected objects is greyed out. The same happens when I try to convert any point symbol to any other point symbol. Am I doing something wrong? Screen capture of the problem is found below.

The workflow is to select an object, select a different symbol an then press switch. Is this what you are doing?

Yes, that is what I am doing. I first select the purple point, then I select "prominent man-made object" and then I try to click on the button to switch the type, but it is grayed out. The same workflow works fine with area symbols, but with points it does not work for me.

And I am running OpenOrienteering Mapper 0.9.6 with Qt version 5.15.13 on Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS.

I tested your map file and it works for me OK, I can switch purple points to black cross without problems (OOM 0.9.6/Win 11). The question here is why you use such poor basemap data from OSM when you can download much more precise ones for example from here.

Seems to be the same as in #2365.
In both cases it only affects point objects and happens with Ubuntu 24.04.

I also have satellite imagery and LIDAR terrain data as templates, I just didn't include it in the github repository, but the script to download the templates is here. OSM is just to get me started and import certain useful data such as trails and locations of conspicuous objects like picnic tables.

Yes, this would seem to be the same issue as I am using Linux/Ubuntu as well. If there are diagnostics I can perform to help identify the problem, let me know.

thank you. Can you please try to find out the minimum required sequence of actions?
E.g.:

1. open Mapper
2. create new empty map with symbol set
3. import OSM data
4. select a point object and try to change its symbol

That's the relevant code snippet:

It depends on calling updateSymbolAndObjectDependentActions() and editing_in_progress being false.

Good idea! I should first clarify that I am currently on my office workstation and not my laptop that I was using this weekend. Both computers are running the same versions of OOM and Qt on Ubuntu 24.04. The only difference I see is that the laptop is on Ubuntu 24.04.3 while the desktop is on 24.04.4.

And the frustrating this is that everything I have tried has not caused the issue on my desktop computer... It has definitely happened twice on my laptop with two completely different maps, so it is a real thing, but the desktop that I use for work just isn't producing the issue. I will try again on my laptop this evening to explore what causes the issue.

I am now at home using my laptop and I just tried the simplest possible thing:

1. Create a new map, scale 10000, symbol set ISOM 2017-2
2. Add a point object (I chose ruin, minimum size, but I can't imagine it matters)
3. Try to change it to another object type (I chose high tower, but again, don't think it matters)

and the option to change is already grayed out. So, nothing to do with OSM or specific data types, but something to do with a very specific interaction between OOM and certain Ubuntu installations.

I just updated my laptop from Ubuntu 24.04.3 to 24.04.4 (a simple sudo apt upgrade) and the problem appears to have disappeared. It must have been some very specific bug in something associated with that version of Ubuntu.
