devise a way for users to sign up to private hackathons

A private hackathon is by definition not visible to non-members. But so a non-member has nothing to apply to.

We need do add some mechanism for users to become members of a private hackathon. I can think of:

• users need to register and are then manually added by a hackathon owner
• users get some kind of link where they can join a hackathon (with optional user creation if they don't have a user yet?)

Regarding private hackathon and becoming a member

I'd encourage doing both options, in order, as the link mechanism builds on the manual one.

Phase 1. The owner adds directly

We can add the participants already, or send them a registration link?

Phase 2 invitation links

What if we have an invitations table? We can send a link to an invite with a token that adds a logged-in user to the hackathon or points the user to registration.
