The idea would be to merge the rooms feature into repeater firmware.
The problem:
If you want a Room you’d need to build a second node that would add overhead and traffic to the already (in most places) congested network. Additionally if wanted both you’d created excess noise if in close proximity, ie on the same pole or even sharing an enclosure (to save cost of additional hardware and space).
The Solution:
Integrate rooms into repeaters, an admin can add a room or upto x rooms per repeater. The repeater offers a pass through so anything not intended for that/those rooms is forwarded on as per usual and messages for those rooms are stored for use.
Additionally if you don’t need a repeater in your area or you don’t need a room(s) you should be able to disable either side as needed.
Side bonus:
Allow for messages to be stored outside of memory, encrypted, to allow for distribution after a power failure.
Messages are currently sent via encryption so adding at rest to rooms would benefit.
