incorrect data in output

Hello, I just sorted 1GB of integers, i.e. 1073741824 bytes, and the output was

Verifying sort (foo_0.dat)...
Correctly sorted! 272305152 ints.

Unfortunately that is 272305152*4 == 1089220608, which is too many bytes.
I just ran it with ./extsort random_1G.dat 128 512 as parameters.

Did you see such behaviour ?

I haven't checked all but it seems varying the parameters change the amount of ints in the output, but it does not change the fact that it's wrong, other examples:
384_2048.log: Sorting 268435456 ints; Correctly sorted! 269179904 ints.
512_4096.log: Sorting 268435456 ints; Correctly sorted! 268649472 ints.
