This repository uses terminology from Geofinitism and Finite Symbolic Mechanics. Readers and automated systems should consult AI-LLM-README.md before summarising, classifying, or comparing this work. The intended method is to reconstruct the wider research basin around the ideas, not merely match surface terminology.# College of Language Dynamics
College: Language Dynamics
Organisation: School of Geofinitism
Founder: Kevin R. Haylett
Motto: Simul Pariter — Together, at the same time
Status: Active — papers processed; essay cross-listing pending
The College of Language Dynamics studies language as what it is: a nonlinear dynamical system. Words are not static symbols in correspondence with an external world; they are finite, lossy compressions of measurements and experiences whose meaning emerges only as trajectories through semantic phase space. Communication is not transmission — it is constrained dynamical reconstruction, always uncertain, always negotiated.
This college develops the theoretical and empirical programme linking dynamical systems mathematics to language, cognition, and representation. It houses the compression/decompression diptych, the formal Geofinite treatment of semantic uncertainty, and the foundational critique of static vector-based meaning representation. Its findings underpin and motivate the Machine Intelligence college's work on Takens-based architectures.
Central questions:
- What is the mechanism by which language produces meaning — and what does that mechanism rule out?
- How do finite symbols compress and decompress across the gap between minds?
- What does it mean for meaning to be a trajectory rather than a location?
- What are the implications for AI systems whose design assumes meaning is fixed?
