CFOOD — CRISPR-Enhanced Local Food Adaptation System

"Nourishing communities through nature's own blueprint."

Sacred intention: Align technology with life, sovereignty, and reciprocity.

Ethos

CFOOD is an open-source, ethics-first framework for exploring how communities might improve local food resilience through computational modeling and governance. CFOOD forbids actionable wet-lab protocols and any operational enablement of gene editing. This project is strictly educational, policy, and simulation-oriented.

  • Do not use CFOOD for live genetic modification.
  • Do not deploy CFOOD outputs to biological systems.
  • Always comply with local and international biosecurity and biosafety regulations.

Scope (What CFOOD Is)

  • A knowledge and governance framework.
  • A community process for needs assessment and ecological stewardship.
  • A software space for computational-only simulations of potential trait impacts, without design or execution of genetic edits.

Non-Scope (What CFOOD Is Not)

  • A how-to for CRISPR or any gene-editing technique.
  • A source of DNA constructs, lab protocols, or step-by-step guidance.
  • A mechanism to guide or assist real-world genetic alterations.

Repository Layout

  • docs/ETHICS_AND_SAFETY.md — Core values, guardrails, red lines.
  • docs/GOVERNANCE.md — Decision-making, consent, and review processes.
  • docs/SIMULATION_SPEC.md — Computational-only modeling boundaries.
  • docs/RISK_REGISTER.md — Risk taxonomy and mitigations.
  • docs/COMPLIANCE_POLICY.md — Alignment with biosafety, biosecurity, and law.
  • CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md — Community expectations.
  • CONTRIBUTING.md — How to contribute safely.
  • LICENSE — Open-source license.

Vision

CFOOD aspires to steward community-led, place-based nutrition resilience with reverence for ecosystems, cultural sovereignty, and intergenerational ethics. We choose slowness, transparency, and consent over speed. We privilege safety, dignity, and life.

Getting Started (Computational Only)

  • Read docs/ETHICS_AND_SAFETY.md and docs/GOVERNANCE.md first.
  • Review docs/SIMULATION_SPEC.md for strict modeling constraints.
  • Use issues and discussions to propose research questions and simulations. Do not propose or discuss wet-lab execution.

Contributing

See CONTRIBUTING.md. All contributions must respect our non-actionability policy. PRs that include lab methods, DNA designs, or operational guidance will be closed.

License

See LICENSE. This repository is licensed to promote open governance and safe knowledge sharing—never operationalization of gene editing.

With love and responsibility.
