…idates lane Four defects together kept every query behind minutes of synchronous work on busy workspaces (measured on a 151k-symbol, 1.6 GB graph): - candidates path materialized the entire generation into JS per call instead of using the indexed store lookup (minutes -> 659 ms measured); - the freshness barrier's 2 s timeout could never fire: the inline reconcile is synchronous SQLite/filesystem work that never yields to the event loop. Query commands now take the read-only fresh/stale verdict (observeOnly) and never repair — the watcher owns writes by design (>120 s -> 2.9 s measured); - bounded() drained abandoned work without aborting it; reconcile is signal-aware, so abort first and the safety drain settles in ms; - barrier-triggered reconciles ignored .agent/config.json ignoredPrefixes that builds honor, so every scan re-added excluded files: 34,798 phantom journal events, refilling within minutes of being cleared, replayed on every call. Plus: cortex-candidates.mjs, a lean entrypoint importing only store + candidate assembly (0.9 s vs ~2.6 s full-CLI module graph) for latency-budget callers (Membrane federation gives providers 1.5 s total), and read-path pragmas (mmap 256 MB, 64 MB page cache) sized for GB-scale graphs.
