Add CHANGELOG, switch README to PyPI install with badges, drop pre-release/path-dependency notes, and bump the development status classifier to Beta.
Lead with the linear-sequential-read optimisation, describe random/ backward access cost and page-cache behaviour, and drop test-file references in favour of user-relevant properties.
Add a headline Stability and correctness section, and make the usage examples wait for the FUSE mount to come up before reading from it.
